I want to say that I remember you.

The wide savannah in your eye,

Duns and browns and rocks and sky.

I want to say that I remember you.

Not as souvenir of colonial hubris

Alone and without foal in a northerly Zoo.

That orgy of destruction, can we pray that it is over yet?

But traveling through rippling grass

Toward a horizon as far as the ocean’s

The earth pulsing at your feet.
